Prom Xtra is a big hit!

Thousands of families flocked to Colwyn Bay Promenade this weekend for the much loved annual Prom Xtra event. Stretching over two miles, little and big kids alike enjoyed the predominately free activities put on by Conwy County Borough Council including face painting, a high ropes course, segways, a laser maze, a gaming bus, a bouldering cube, a zip wire, beach rugby and more.

Split into zones, the event attracted an estimated crowd of 50,000 over the two days with highlights being a sailing world record attempt from Rio 2016 Olympic hopeful Chris Russell, taster sessions out on the water with Community Interest Company, Colwyn Bay Watersports and appearances on the Prom Live stage from top X Factor finalists Jahmene Douglas and Kingsland Road.

Local talent Elliot Parkes, Jamie Porter, Cadi Edwards, Jenna Jones, Connah Evans, Lucy Was A Decoy, Kameelion, Dancers, Click22, Erin Dolan, Hannah Sifleet, Sera Mai, Mad Haven, Contagious, Jay Mckray, Mavmac, Vynce, Sophie Lloyd, Gavner P, Matt Hamer, Sarah Wynn, Georgia Richards and Bethan Tomkins also graced the stage to entertain the crowds despite the patchy weather.

And we won’t have to wait a full calendar year to enjoy the event again as Event Organiser, Rachael Gill confirmed that Prom Xtra will be moving back to its May date for 2015. “Next year we’ll be back in May on the further improved Promenade surrounding Porth Eirias. We’ll be back to it this week discussing what worked well and where we can improve and plans will begin towards the end of the year for 2015.”

Conwy County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Tourism, Marketing and Leisure, Cllr Graham Rees said “Prom Xtra is always well attended by locals and visitors alike and gives the surrounding areas a good boost in economic benefit over the weekend as well as in preparation in terms of event infrastructure. It provides families with a fun day out, saving them money with a good choice of free activities”.
